[시민동행정원9] 한양도성 서울들숲∣Hanyang Fortress Seoul Deul-sup

"한양도성 서울들숲"은 "서울"이라는 지명과 "한류-서울流"에서 출발한다. 우선 "서울"은 우리나라의 수도로, k-문화, k-culture 한류의 중심지이다.
역사적으로나 어원적으로 "서울"은 신라 시대 수도를 뜻하던 말 "서라벌(徐羅伐)"에서 유래하였는데 백제 시대에는 한강 유역의 수도로서 '위례성', '한성' 이라 불렸고, 조선 시대에는 공식 수도 명칭으로 '한성부'가 사용되다가 1945년, 광복 이후 처음으로 '서울'이 공식 도시 명칭으로 채택되면서 지금의 이름이 되었다.
그래서 서울이라는 이름에는 한강을 중심으로 나라의 중심이 되는 도시, 즉 정치·문화·경제의 중심지라는 의미가 담겨 있었으나 예로부터 즉— "나라의 심장"으로 인식되어 왔다.
그러던 서울이 이제는 세계의 중심, 문화의 심장으로 우뚝 섰고 2026년 서울숲은 국제정원박람회장으로 세계의 정원의 중심, 심장에 되려고 한다.
이에 '서울=우리나라'를 대표하는 곳이며 서울숲의 정원은 세계 정원사에 또 하나의 새로운 역사를 쓰는 순간이라는 벅찬 기대와 영광으로 곰실누리의 정원 이름을 "한양도성 서울들숲"이라 명명하였다.
"Hanyang Fortress Seoul Deul-sup" takes its name from the place name "Seoul" and the concept of "Hallyu — Seoul-ryu (Seoul's Flow)." Seoul is the capital of Korea and the epicenter of K-culture and the Korean Wave.
Historically and etymologically, "Seoul" derives from "Seorabeol (徐羅伐)," the word for the capital during the Silla period. During the Baekje period, it was known as "Wiryeseong" and "Hanseong" as the capital of the Han River basin. During the Joseon Dynasty, the official name "Hanseongbu" was used, until 1945, when "Seoul" was adopted as the city's official name for the first time following liberation.
The name Seoul thus carried the meaning of a city at the heart of the nation centered on the Han River — a hub of politics, culture, and economy — and has long been regarded as "the heart of the nation."
That Seoul has now risen as the center of the world and the heart of culture. In 2026, Seoul Forest is set to become the venue for the International Garden Expo, aspiring to be the heart and center of the world's gardens.
It is with this sense of pride — that Seoul represents Korea, and that the garden at Seoul Forest marks a new chapter in the history of world garden-making — that Gomsilnuri has named their garden "Hanyang Fortress Seoul Deul-sup."
